Copy of the original 1915 Lusitania medal struck by Karl Goetz showing the Lusitania going down. This copy has much less detail than the British copies shown online. Inscribed: GESCHAFT UBER ALLES [business above all] CUNA LINIE / CUNARD / FAHRKARTEN/AUSGABE [ticket office] [newspaper headline reads:] U/BOO[T]/GEFAH[R] [U-boat danger].
Related to the article, "Echo Heard of Lusitania. Medal Carried by U-Boat Operator Found Giving Expected Sinking Date," Los Angeles Times, 1 Dec. 1935: 8. The story related in this article, stating that the medal was struck for the submarine crew in advance of the sinking of the Lusitania, is fiction.
