Mertie West stands next to a vase of flowers while Richard Siemsen sits on the porch behind her.
Mertie Whitaker West was H. H. West's second wife. Richard Alfred Siemsen was H. H. West's grandson. She wears a dress with a brooch on it and glasses. He wears a plaid shirt with the collar popped up. There are two items hanging in the front window. One is a circle with a cross in the center. The other is a small, rectangular flag with a star in the center. The word at the top may be, "Serving." The porch of the house is visible with the numbers "2223" on the stairs. There is a doormat at the base of the stairs.
