Photograph of H. H. West standing alongside his Buick as he looks across the landscape the summit of the Blue Mountains. A mountain road curves into frame at left in the near distance. A graveled parking area stretches wide to the right of it. H. H. West stands at center in the near distance and within in the graveled parking area. His back is to camera as he holds something up to his face and looks towards the landscape in the distance. His Buick is parked next to him; it is viewed from the back. A low barrier fence at far right lines the graveled area. The valley below the summit is barely visible in the far distance.

Text from negative sleeve: 1599. Yellowstone trip 1942. Saturday June 27, 1942. 1. Oregon Trail marker at Emigrant Springs. 2. We stop at Emigrant Springs in the pines to eat our lunch. Lot of water still running thru the public camp, that it now is. 3. H.H.West and Buick at Summit of Umatilla (Blue) Mountains. Snake river in distance. A wonderful view.
