Golas holds a wooden block between the door and the frame, Captain Peoples standing behind him and pointing at the lock, with Bright standing behind Peoples and watching.
Meyer Golas, convicted several days ago of burglary, admitted stealing a revolver from a court bailiff's locker during his trial. This has caused Sheriff Biscailuz to order an investigation into the handling of prisoners in the Superior Court rooms. Golas was able to steal the revolver after he used a wooden wedge and a slender wood-screw to pick a lock on the prisoners' room door.
Similar photograph appears with the article, "Finding Of Revolver Frustrates Jail Break," Los Angeles Times, 30 Jan 1936: 3.
