13-year-old Richard Whitehead was shot in the abdomen by an unidentified person celebrating the holiday with gunshots.
This photograph appears with the headline, "Crippled Children at Hospital Join in Halloween Gayety," Los Angeles Times, 1 Nov 1935: A2.
A roomful of children in wheelchairs faces the dancers. Some are lying down in their chairs and others are in the upright position. Some have noise makers and masks. The curtains are covered with decorations featuring black cats, jack-o-lanterns, and owls.
