A director of the Ruth Protective Home, a women's and children's shelter near El Monte in Los Angeles County, McCabe acquired hundreds of dolls to donate them to the shelter come Christmas time.

Text from newspaper caption: Mrs. Guy Stewart McCabe is in the gardens of her Prospect Boulevard home in Pasadena, displaying a few of the members of her doll clown circus--the center of attraction at the garden party and fair held yesterday afternoon at the E. W. Knowlton estates. Through her interest in underprivileged children, Mrs. McCabe has created, collected, and dressed hundreds of dolls for distribution this Christmas.
