View of a bridge in Compton with wooden railings spanning the Los Angeles River, swollen with flood water from a torrential rain storm
Text from newspaper caption for another image of a Los Angeles River bridge during this storm: Thundering Waters Tear at Toppling Bridges. Tempest Turns River Into Destructive Force. Hungry flood waters of the raging Los Angeles River assailing the Main-street bridge. These waters rioting over an area which normally is an arroyo seco or dry river bed. A number of bridges have been swept out or badly damaged by the stream, transformed from an innocuous pygmy to a destructive giant almost overnight [Los Angeles Times, 17 Feb. 1927: 3].
Another image of this bridge has "Compton bridge" handwritten on the negative (id no. uclamss_1429_2371).
