Los Angeles Civic Grand Opera production of “Il Trovatore,” Act 1, Scene 1. Cast members depicting soldiers and attendants (wearing tunics and stockings, helmets and swords at their sides) sings as Ferrando, captain of the guards for the Count di Luna, listens. Ferrando, portrayed by Arnett Amos, wears a cape and embellished tunic reflecting his rank over the others. Behind them hangs a sculpture of a knight with sword and shield. A piano and musicians are viewed in the orchestra pit at foreground. The opera was performed at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, Los Angeles.
Verdi’s “Il Trovatore,” produced by Francesco (Frank) Pace, was performed at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, April 22, 1950. The production was critiqued in a Los Angeles Times article, “Verdi Opera Presented,” 24 Apr. 1950: B10.
