Cartoon is an elaborate variation of another drawing. There are two copies (see image ark nos. 21198.zz002d5q2g and 21198.zz002d5q8k)
Photograph of a political cartoon drawn by Adelbert Bartlett. At top, an image of monkeys (one male and one female) depicted folding laundry. They are flanked by text, music notes and soap suds. Text reads: “Laundry Lane by ‘Sudsy’.” At bottom, bundles of laundry sit on shelves with “Will Call” printed above. To the left, a spinning vortex (perhaps a washing machine) appears to create soap suds. Machines sit just to the left in the background, the words, “Now Sudsy Laundry Lane” are written above them with music notes. Remaining text reads: “Montana Avenue Laundries. ‘You Bring – We Do’ – Commercial – They Violate Self-Service Permit. Must We Submit to Spot Favors, ‘See Me’ Zoning, Sudsy Laundry Lane.” [At bottom:] “Home Owners: Protest to Your City Council – Press – Growing Industrial Invasion & Ruin Home Areas.”
