- Description
-
Knefler Mcginnis (center), commander, with four other officers of the VP-10 Squadron beside a Navy seaplane. The other officers are probably 4 of the 5 who flew the first non-stop formation flight from San Francisco (Mare Island, San Pablo Bay) to Pearl Harbor.
Probably related to another photograph of the VP-10 Squadron with the caption: Six Leaders Discuss Route of Trip Across Pacific. Looking Over Aerial Map of Mass Flight. Left to right--Lieutenant-Commander Knefler McGinnis, commander of the flight, Pilot and navigator, Lieut. H. J. McRoberts, pilot and navigator; Lieut. F. A. Davis, pilot and navigator; Lieut. T. D. Guinn, pilot and navigator; Lieut. J. Perry, pilot and navigator; J. K. Averill, pilot and navigator. These men command the six ships which will make the mass flight from San Francisco to Honolulu.
