A different photograph of Barbara Douglas christening the City of Los Angeles aircraft appears with the caption, "Daughter of Ship's Builder Dedicating It Barbara Dean [sic] Douglas, 9-year-old daughter of Donald Douglas, builder of ship, christening City of Los Angeles at public dedication ceremonies yesterday at Grand Central air terminal," Los Angeles Times, 27 Nov. 1933: A2
A very similar photograph appears with the article, "GIANT AIRLINER IN DEBUT: City of Los Angeles Dashes to Bay City on First Run After Christening Ceremonies," Los Angeles Times, 27 Nov. 1933: A1
Barbara Douglas stands upon a few folding chairs in the foreground at left. Her back faces the camera but she turns her head to look towards the camera. Barbara dons a long coat and matching hat as she holds a wine bottle out towards the propeller of the City of Los Angeles aircraft to christen it. Behind and to the right of her, a propeller and engine of the plane are viewed close-up at center. Beneath it, dedication attendees are visible milling about on the ground. The fuselage of the aircraft sits in partial view. It enters frame near the upper left corner and stretches back towards center, disappearing behind its engine. Along the left edge, text on the side of the plane reads, "[T]WA." Silhouetted mountains rise behind the airport's runways in the background at right.
