Trial of Ralph Sheldon, eastern gunman and hoodlum, on three counts of assault to murder three Long Beach policemen in a waterfront gun battle two weeks ago, yesterday was set for next Monday … Sheldon maintained that his true name is James Sherman, the name he gave police when arrested, but the police say they have otherwise identified him. … His indictment grew out gun battle … following the kidnaping of E.L. (Zeke) Caress … on his way to collect $50,000 ransom …
